About Jeanne Newton Schoborg
The Midwest is where I grew up, but as a child, I traveled to three continents with my parents and sister. My family's jewelry business took us everywhere! There wasn't a museum, monument, pyramid, or castle we missed along the way...Dad and a multitude of tour guides made certain of that! From the age of nine till we turned eighteen, our summers were filled with the sights, sounds, and tastes of the world.
I attended Stephen's College from 1974 to 1979 where I graduated with a B.A. in Studio Art. I minored in Equestrian Science, of course! Now, one would expect I learned a lot from those 5 years, but I really didn't...at least, not what I was looking for. It was the mid seventies and well...you remember the seventies? Horse art was sniffed at and I was told there was no market for it. So after I graduated, I went to work for my folks and did only a handful of paintings thereafter. It wasn't until 16 years ago I decided if I was ever going to make a mark in this field, I better get after it...
In addition to painting full time now I have been teaching beginning painting and drawing classes in the nearby town of Marshalltown and am enjoying every minute of it!
